The Italian Workers Movement, a party composed of a group of former Communists who broke away from the Italian Communist Party two years ago, has issued a public declaration severely critical of the anti-Jewish campaign in the Communists countries of Eastern Europe.
The declaration attributes the Soviet policy to three factors; a desire to keep the Arab states out of a coalition with the West; a desire to eliminate a minority group which stands out as different from the general pattern; and, the need for a scapegoat to blame for failures in the Communist world. The declaration also rejects the Communist differentiation betweeen a Zionist and a Jew, and asserts that Zionism is today a movement for all Jews, regardless of political affiliation or nationality.
