A check for $100,000 to aid German refugees here was given today by the executors of the estate the late Jacob Fox, president of the owners and Tenants Electric Co., Inc., to William Rosenwald and Edward M. M. Warburg, representing the Joint Distribution Committee and the National Coordinating Committee for Aid to Refugees and Emigrants Coming from Germany, at the J.D.C. offices. Mr. Fox died Dec. 17, 1935. The gift was approved last week by Surrogate James A. Foley.
At the presentation it was learned that Mr. Fox, suffering from acute appendicitis, had refused to undergo an operation until a new will was drawn and signed by him in the hospital shortly before his death. He called Leon A. Mnuchin, his attorney, in the middle of the night and executed the will at Mt. Sinai Hospital. His great concern was for the welfare of Jewish refugees from Germany, for whose relief he wished to bequeath a sizeable portion of his wealth.
The $100,000 is earmarked for expenditure in this country. In accepting the bequest Mr. Rosenwald said the possibility of making provision for the absorption of these immigrants into American life depended entirely upon the funds made available to private organizations.
