This year’s United Jewish Appeal campaign in the United States has achieved, so far, 8 percent more than last year’s drive in the same period, Melvin Goldstein, administrative vice-chairman of the UJA, reported here today.
Mr. Goldstein spoke of the “beneficent influence” upon American Jewish community life in general, and upon Jewish fund-raising efforts in particular, resulting from the recent reorganization of the Jewish Agency executive in the United States. “The Jewish community,” he declared, “now feels it has much more direct responsibility for Agency affairs, and is reacting favorably to this increased responsibility.”
One of the principal topics discussed here by Mr. Goldstein with the Jewish Agency concerned preparations for further visits to Israel by American Jewish community leaders. Thus far, this year, more than 600 community leaders have visited Israel. During the next two months, Mr. Goldstein said, 200 more will come.
