Jewish Art Exhibition Opens in South Africa; Construction of New Reform Temple is Begun

A Jewish art exhibition sponsored by the South African Board of Jewish Deputies opened here last night with leaders of all sections of the community in attendance. The exhibit is made up of 250 original works by Jewish artists both in South Africa and abroad as well as masterpieces on Jewish themes, including a work by Rembrandt.

The foundation stone for a new Reform Temple — to be known as Temple Shalom Center — was laid today with representatives of the municipality, the Board of Deputies and the Zionist Federation in attendance. Mayor G.B. Gordon of this city paid tribute to the new congregation and lauded the role which Jews have played in the development of South Africa.
