Jewish candidates are prominent among political figures currently campaigning in Ontario’s provincial elections, scheduled for September 25. it was noted here today. In the suburban riding of Forest Hill, J.Sidney Midanik, a prominent figure in local Jewish life, is running for the New Democratic party and is favored to win. In another race, in suburban Downsview, three Jewish candidates are vying with one another: David Vanek, a Conservative; A.Alan Borovoy, of the NDP; and Vernon Singer, the incumbent MP., who is a Liberal. All are Jews.
The Canadian Jewish Congress is again following an established practice of distributing a pre-election policy statement to all Jewish candidates, urging them to avoid the injection of racial or religious issues in their campaigns, and rejecting the notion of “bloc” voting.
