A decision to embark upon farther colonization work in Israel was taken here today at a quarterly meeting of the council of the Jewish Colonization Association. Authorization for a study of the best region for such colonization was approved.
The council approved loans for the sons of JCA settlers in Argentina to obtain their own farms and grants for secular and religious schools in the Argentine colonies. Steps were approved to encourage Jewish farmers in Canada to acquire farms which they now work on a rental basis, and loans were authorized for recent Jewish immigrants to Brazil and Australia to help in their economic absorption.
Victor Girmounsky director general of the JCA, reported on the progress of the organization’s far-flung colonies and training institutions. He reported that the colonies established in Israel were doing very well and that agricultural and economic rehabilitation programs were being carried through in North Africa. Sir Henry d’Avigdor Goldsmid was re-elected president.
