The Jewish communities of Southern Chile have been hard hit by the series of devastating earthquakes that hit that area but, as of today, central Jewish agencies here have not had word of any loss of Jewish lives.

The property losses of the Jewish community in Valdivia have been heavy. Damage was not so great at Concepcion and Temuco. No word has yet been received from the community at Puerto Monte because communications with that city have been disrupted.

The Santiago Jewish community has set up an emergency relief committee to raise funds and gather supplies for the quake victims. The committee today turned over the sum of $10,000 to the Minister of the Interior for the general relief funds.
