Jewish federations and community councils throughout the country were urged by the National Community Relations Advisory Council to make a widespread distribution of a letter requesting civilians to stay away from such winter resorts as Miami Beach, Hot Springs, Lake Placid, Atlantic City, Asheville and Santa Monica, all of which are being used by the Army and Navy as redistribution and rehabilitation centers.

In the announcement, David Sher, chairman of the NCRAC, said that the request is being made by the six national civic protective member agencies of the NCRAC in conjunction with the Army and Navy Committee of the National Jewish Welfare Board.

The letter said that civilians “must not go to winter resorts being used by the Army and Navy to care for the wounded” where there is already overcrowding and high prices, and pointed out the resentment on the part of the wounded soldiers “against those civilians who have flocked to these resorts and whose holiday mood contrasts so vividly with the recent harrowing experiences of the men who have returned.”
