Leaders of the Jewish community of South Africa today sent warm greetings to the country’s new Premier, Balthazar J. Vorster, who assumed his new office yesterday as successor to the assassinated former Prime Minister Verwoerd.

Teddy Schneider, president of the South African Board of Jewish Deputies, stated in a telegram to the Prime Minister: “On behalf of the Jewish community, I extend to you the heartiest congratulations and warmest wishes.” Edel Horwitz, chairman of the South African Zionist Federation, said in his wire that the Federation “extends its best wishes to you on your assumption of the Premiership. May God grant you strength and wisdom to bear the burden of leadership, and may He guide the republic during your term of office and bestow the blessings of peace, harmony, brotherly love and prosperity upon all its inhabitants.”
