A finely sculptured marble Ark of the 18th Century has been shipped to Israel, it was learned here today. The Ark, packed in 45 cases, is a gift of the Jewish community of Trieste to the Jewish State.
The Ark was built for a synagogue in Trieste inaugurated in 1745. In 1937, the synagogue was razed to make room for a public building and the community packed away the marble Ark. It was hidden during the war and has remained unused to this day.
