Jewish Draftees May Ask Deferment of Induction During Passover

The National Jewish Welfare Board’s Division of Religious Activities has received an official communication from Gen. Lewis B. Hershey, director of the Selective Service System, announcing that all local draft boards are requested to give “favorable consideration, wherever possible, ” to requests of registrants of the Jewish faith not to be forwarded for physical examination or for induction into the Armed Forces during Passover.
