Samuel Getmansky, a millinery importer of New York, arrived in Berlin following an extraordinary experience at Riga, where he was arrested ad hold for seven days on the charge of having in his possession $2,700 in American Express Checks, says a Berlin despatch today.
After traveling in Germany, Russia and other countries, Mr. Getmansky was arrested in a hotel in Riga and two detectives were detailed to sleep in the came room he and Mrs. Cetmansky occupied, merely because a representative of the express company there, Dr. M. eyere, complained that comebody had been passing forged checks.
While he remained in confinement his wife frantically appealed to John P. H urlcy, United States Consul, who is believed to have cabled to Washington. There were he results, however, until the New Yorker had been detained a week, when the Latvian police declared the charges false and released him. Mrs Getmansky was later informed by the American Concul that her husband was not guilty of the charged.
