Jewish Laborer Killed, Youth Gravely Wounded in New Arab Attacks

ONE JEW WAS KILLED, ANOTHER SERIOUSLY WOUNDED AND TWO POLICEMEN INJURED TODAY AS NEW DISORDERS BROKE OUT IN SCATTERED PARTS OF PALESTINE.

MORDECAI ZLOTNITZKY, 24-YEAR-OLD WORKER, WAS SHOT DEAD AND AN ARAB CONSTABLE WOUNDED WHEN AN ARAB BAND ATTACKED A PALESTINE POTASH CO. CONVOY EN ROUTE TO JERUSALEM FROM JERICHO. ROYAL AIR FORCE PLANES AND ARMORED RADIO CARS EQUIPPED WITH MACHINEGUNS PROCEEDED TO JERICHO TO HUNT FOR THE BAND. ZLOTNITZKY CAME TO PALESTINE FROM POLAND THREE YEARS AGO AND WAS MARRIED FOUR MONTHS AGO.

ASHER HERMON, 16, WAS SHOT AND SERIOUSLY WOUNDED AT YAZUR NEAR HAIFA, POLICE REPORTS SAID HE WAS WALKING WITH A GIRL FROM YAZUR TO HAIFA AND FIRED UPON FROM A CAR WHICH PASSED HIM. OTHER REPORTS SAID THE YOUTH WAS STANDING NEAR A SCHOOL IN YAZUR AND WAS SHOT AT FROM A HILL.

A BOMB WAS THROWN IN THE OLD CITY QUARTER OF JERUSALEM INJURING A POLICEMAN. SEVERAL SHOTS WERE FIRED AT THE ZION GATE BUT NO CASUALTIES WERE REPORTED.

REPORTS WERE CIRCULATING THAT FAWZI BEY EL KAUKADJI, SYRIAN TERRORIST LEADER KNOWN AS "PUBLIC ENEMY NO. I" BY THE POLICE DURING LAST YEAR’S DISORDERS HAS RETURNED TO THE HOLY LAND AND IS HEADING MARAUDING BANDS IN THE HEBRON AND BEERSHEBA DISTRICTS.

FAWZI CROSSED THE BORDER TWO DAYS AFTER THE FLIGHT OF THE MUFTI OF JERUSALEM TO SYRIA ON OCT. 16, THE REPORTS SAID, AND WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DARING RAID ON THE POLICE STATION AT DAHARIYA LAST WEEK AND INTENSIFICATION OF TERRORISM IN THE DISTRICT.

DAVID BERGSON, 28-YEAR-OLD AMERICAN CITIZEN, WAS RELEASED TODAY FROM THE CONCENTRATION CAMP AT ACRE, WHERE HE HAD BEEN CONFINED A MONTH AGO IN CONNECTION WITH THE SLAYING OF AN ARAB NEAR KARKUR.
