Jewish members of the middle classes, including merchants and industrialists, are among the thousands of refugees from Soviet-occupied Bessarabia and Bukovina continuing to arrive in Bucharest. The Red Cross and the military and civil authorities are aiding the refugees.

Chief Rabbi Alexander Safran and Dr. William Filderman, president of the Union of Rumanian Jews, had a lengthy audience with Religions Minister Mihail Ghelmegeanu who asked that the Jewish population remain calm and avoid unnecessary gatherings. The delegation pledged the Jewish community’s loyalty to the Government.
