8,000 Jewish refugees of the 25,000 from Russia and Ukraine who have been ordered expelled from Poland by April 1, have already been forced out of the country, and are on the Russian frontier “between the devil and the deep sea.” Driven out of Poland, they are unable to re-enter Russia, as they have forfeited their Russian citizenship in not returning by January 1. The refugees are suffering acute distress.
This information is contained in a cable to the office of the American Jewish Congress which inquired as to the exact position of the refugees. The remainder of the 25,000 have been ordered to leave April 16tyh. An agreement had originally been entered into by the Polish Government with the Jewish Deputies, whereby the Polish Government agreed to delay the expulsion until arrangements could be made for their depature to and admission to other countries. Officials of the government, however, rescinded their decision and ordered the exile to take place on the dates originally set.
