The serious injury of 16 people in the collapse of the stage in the Philharmonic Hall here last night, where the Bund (Jewish Socialist Party) was sponsoring a concert on the second night of Passover, is viewed by the religious Jews as an act of God in retribution for having committed sacrilege (a chilul hashem).
During the concert, which was being given by a choir composed mostly of women, the beams supporting the stage suddenly collapsed, burying all the singers and creating indescribable confusion and a panic. The fire brigade extricated the injured and rushed them to a hospital.
