The Jewish War Veterans of the United States, at its 61st annual convention here this weekend, urged the State Department to declare Farid Zeineddine, Syrian Ambassador to Washington, persona non grata for “meddling in the internal affairs” of the U.S.The veterans charged that Ambassador Zeineddine had slandered American Jews in a speech last June in which he said that “the American Jew is not an American emotionally or even ultimately.” The delegates also urged the United Nations to guarantee safe passage of the Suez Canal for Israeli shipping.
