Representatives from Jewish women’s organizations in fourteen countries were in attendance at the opening session of the World Conference of Jewish Women here on Monday afternoon.
The delegates as well as guests were given a reception by the Israelitisch Humanitaeren Frauenverein of Hamburg. The conference was greeted by Herr Alfred Levy in behalf of the Jewish community of Hamburg.
Mrs. Rebekah Kohut of New York convened the conference session and was given a long ovation in recognition of her service in behalf of Jewish women’s causes. “Twenty centuries of Jewish history have welded the Jews into a unit and it is hardly conceivable that one section of Jewry can keep aloof from the rest.” she stated.
On the agenda of the conference is the question of establishing a world league of Jewish women. Among the American delegates are Mrs. Estelle Stemberger, representing the National Council of Jewish Women. Mrs. Charles Rosenblatt of Cleveland, Mrs. Charles Hoffmann of New York, Mrs Frances Pollock of San Francisco and Miss Jean Jaffe of New York. Countries represented by the 300 delegates are the United States. Belgium, England, France, Holland. Latvia, Austria, Palestine, Poland. Switzerland and Czechoslovakia.
