Representatives of six Jewish, Catholic, and Protestant welfare organizations met here today and mapped plans for coping with the influx of refugees from Algeria to this area.
Stressing that the conference had “no political purposes whatever,” the meeting resolved to call the attention of the public authorities to “certain social and economic problems posed by the Algerian drama.”
The conference elected three co-chairmen. They are Cardinal Gerlier, representing the Catholic group; Pastor Arger, of the Protestant community; and Lyon Chief Rabbi Klink. The conference noted that “social work must be implemented on behalf of the Algerian repatriates, whose numbers are growing daily.”
