Jews Pledge Loyalty to the First President of South African Republic

The South African Jewish Board of Deputies today sent a message of congratulations to President-elect Charles Robert Swart on his election as the first President of the republic. The Board’s message declared:

“The Deputies, as the representative body of South African Jewry respectfully offers you its congratulations on your election as the first president of the Republic of South Africa and its warmest wishes for a successful and happy term of office. As loyal citizens of South Africa, the Jewish community will continue to play its part in the well being and progress of the state.”
