Moshe Erem, a pro-Soviet Mapam delegate from Israel, addressing the assembly, questioned the objectivity of Dr. Goldmann. He charged that Dr. Goldmann omitted in his presidential address any reference to fascist and anti-Semitic organizations which, he claimed, are conducting their activities openly also the United States. “I notice particularly that the World Jewish Congress remain insensitive to anti-Semitic manifestations stemming out of the Ethel and Ju# Rosenberg case in the U.S.,” he said.
Louis Segal, leader of the American Zionist Laborites, was the first to #### issue with Mr. Erem. “Why did you not complain of the fact that Dr. Goldmann not include the Slansky trial in Prague in his report#” he asked the Israel #### delegate. It was at the Slansky trial where most oustpoken anti-Jewish spe### delivered. Mr. Segal pointed out that the Jews in the Communist countries afraid both as citizens of those countries and as Jews “because they are su### there to anti-Semitism which is deeply rooted.”
Dr. Maurice Perlzweig, of New York, similarly criticized Mr. Erem tempting to raise the Rosenberg case as an issue at the WJC plenary Assembly pointed out that the case was not a matter of specific Jewish interest and ### fore, not subject for any action on the part of the World Jewish Congress, suggestion that the Jewish community has any special obligation in the mat### sheer nonsense,” he stated.
