The trouble in Bielce, a Bessarabian town, where a number of Jews were seriously injured yesterday during an anti-Semitic outbreak, began with the arrival of three or four peasants, known as adherents of the anti-Semitic chieftain, Professor Alexander Cuza, M. Angelescu, vice-minister of the Interior, informed the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today.
These peasants coming to market attacked the Jews and one boy, Landau, was seriously hurt and is reported to be in a dying condition. Another Jew was taken to the hospital. While Bielce is in a state of the greatest excitement the police have instituted a probe of the incident. They have been instructed to furnish the ministry of the interior with a full report.
The name of one of the anti-Semitic peasants who started yesterday’s riot in Bielce is Ivan Costuic. The Jews who clashed with Costuic were Wel-wel Silberstein and Hillel Neiderman. M. Angelescu, vice-minister of the interior, has telephoned the chief of the secret police and the gendarmerie in Bielce to take necessary measures and they were informed they would be held responsible if Jews were attacked.
