This is a good example of Jewish effrontery and cynical shamelessness, “Polonia”, the organ of the Christian Democratic Party in Upper Silesia, says in an outburst’ to-day against the memorandum submitted to the Ministry of the Interior by the Central Federation of Jewish Small Traders (given in the J.T.A. Bulletin of Dec. 30th.), complaining that the authorities in Upper Silesia are on the ground of old German laws refusing to issue permits to Jews to open shops, so that the Jews have to hire Christians, paying them 15 zlotys, to pretend to be the owners, because Christians readily receive such permits without any difficulty, and appealing to the Ministry to put a stop to this anti-Jewish discrimination. The Jews make no bones about revealing the methods by which they are circumventing our laws for their own ends, the paper says, showing how they are corrupting our Christian population by bribing them to act as their catspaws. The Jews have the impudence to complain to the Government of injustice, it says, and then in the same memorandum they convict themselves of deceit and swindling.

The Jewish demand to be allowed to trade freely in Upper Silesia is impossible, both on moral and on legal grounds, the paper proceeds, because in reality the Jews do not ask for equality but for privileges. If the Jews were allowed to trade freely in Upper Silesia they would soon make an end of the Christian shopkeepers and have the whole of our trade in their hands. It is true, the paper admits, that the law under which they are excluded dates back to the German rule in Upper Silesia, but it is indispensable to us in order to protect our own traders and shopkeepers from a Jewish invasion.
