The Jewish National Fund is planning an unprecedented work plan for this year to meet the challenge of peace, according to Moshe Rivlin, chairman of the JNF Board of Directors. Most of the work planned for this year will be done in the Negev and in the Golilee.
The JNF is now getting ready for land reclamation and the construction of infrastructure for 20 settlements in the so-called “southern project” which will replace the settlements in the Rafah salient. This work will be done in addition to the work already planned in the Arava, on the eastern border of the Negev.
The JNF will spend some $100 million next fiscal year in an unprecedented range of activities. The budget is usually $20-25 million. In the Galilee, the JNF is now engaged in building 28 lookout posts, in addition to work in new and old settlements. Millions of trees are being planted.
Rivlin called on JNF activists throughout the world to do their of most to help the organization face the “tremendous challenge of making the desert bloom and reclaim the Galilee.”
