The 1957 campaign of the Joint Defense Appeal, fund-raising agency for the American Jewish Committee and the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith, for $5, 600, 000 was opened last night with a dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.
Arnold M. Grant, chairman of the campaign, reported that the 1957 goal is $1, 300, 000 more than was raised in 1957. He said the larger budget was needed to meet increased community relations problems arising out of desegregation in the South and the Middle East crisis.
