Three Israeli soldiers were wounded today when an Israeli border patrol came under fire from a Jordanian position in the Akaba-Eilat area in southernmost Israel.
The Israeli patrol was moving along a road parallel to a border fence, when the Jordanian firing was begun. The Israelis returned the fire, and the exchange lasted a few minutes. Israel immediately filed a complaint regarding the incident with the Jordan-Israel Mixed Armistice Commission.

A shooting exchange between Israel and Jordan yesterday, in the Ramleh region, about 10 miles south of Tel Aviv, was settled by Israel and Jordan today without resort by either side to MAC complaints. The affray lasted about a half hour, with some intervals of quiet. No one was hurt on Israel’s side. Each side explained to the other today that the shooting resulted from mutual misunderstandings.
(At Amman, a military spokesman said last night there had also been a brief exchange of fire between Israeli and Jordanian forces south of the Jordanian village of Rantis, in the Nablus area.)
