Joseph Klausner, a ninth grade student of Ramaz School here, was the winner of first prize in the international essay contest of the Torah Education Department of the World Zionist Organization, it was announced by Rabbi Mallen Galinsky, director of the department in the US. Yael Bernstein of Toronto and Ethel Rush of Brazil, won second and third prizes respectively. Rabbi Joshua Bakst, Headmaster of Jewish Studies at Ramaz, said Klausner will compete as a finalist in the International Bible Contest in Jerusalem later this year. Klausner’s essay on the theme “Jerusalem: The Holy City and the Sanctuary,” was written in Hebrew. His award has a monetary value of $250 and entitles him to participate in one of the educational seminars sponsored by the Torah Department for American youths in Israel.
