In spite of frequent reports in the Palestine press that the purpose of his forthcoming visit by Emir Abdullah of Transjordania to London is to be crowned king of Palestine, following his recognition of the Balfour declaration, the Colonial Office officially informed the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that “the Emir’s visit to London is purely one of courtesy.”
The press of Palestine, both Jewish and Arabic, has been filled with rumors about the Emir’s trip to London in June. One report stated that the Emir was going to sign a treaty with the British, which would unite Palestine and Transjordania into one kingdom under the rule of Abdullah.
