The Israel Parliament approved today a record budget of 1,197,900,000 Israeli pounds for the fiscal year of 1958 which began today. The deputies promptly recessed for the Passover holiday.
The Herut, General Zionists and Communists voted against the budget, while the Agudah and Labor Agudah Parties abstained. During the 22 days of debate in the House, the budget was increased by 35,000,000 pounds.
Before wielding his gavel to close the session, Speaker Joseph Sprinzak voiced the Parliament’s holiday greeting to the President, the army and the people. The recess will last until May 19.
