Kofi Annan called Israel’s weekend raid on southern Lebanon a violation of the U.N.-brokered cease-fire on the conflict. The U.N. secretary-general’s office issued a statement on the raid, in which an Israeli officer from an elite commando unit was killed and two others injured in a raid inside Lebanon. Israeli sources said Saturday’s operation was aimed at preventing ammunition and rockets entering Lebanon.
