A leading Jewish activist in Kharkov, Mikhael Kurbel, 38, his son and his dying wife have been given permission to leave for Israel, the Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry reported today. Kurbel is an engineer. The SSSJ said his wife, Adelle, is dying from multiple sclerosis, and before becoming completely paralyzed had repeatedly indicated a wish to die in Israel. For that reason, the SSSJ said, it and similar groups throughout the world have been conducting a special campaign to obtain permission for the family to leave. The SSSJ said the family is expected to leave for Israel this weekend.
