The funeral of Morris Sigman, former president of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union, was held Thursday from the building of the Jewish Daily Forward on the East Side, where the late Jewish labor leader was eulogized. About 4,500 people came to the Forward building, while other thousands gathered along the route of the cortege. Burial was in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Glendale, Queens.
Among those who eulogized the activities of Mr. Sigman were Benjamin Schlesinger, president of the union, who presided; Matthew Woll, vice-president of the American Federation of Labor; Edward F. McGrady, representing William Green, president of the A. F. of L.; Max Zaritsky, president of the Cap and Millinery International; Maurice Feinstone, secretary of the United Hebrew Trades; A. I. Shiplacoff, chairman of National Labor Committee for Palestine Workers; Joseph Kann, editor of the Freie Arbeiter Stimme; Nathan Chanin, secretary of the Jewish Socialist Verband, and B. C. Vladeck, manager of the Forward.
Supreme Court Justice Bernard L. Shientag, who was appointed with Mr. Sigman as a member of the commission named several years ago by Governor Alfred E. Smith to reorganize the garment industry, in an address at the cemetery, paid a warm tribute to Mr. Sigman.
