Solomon Lamport, New York merchant, philanthropist and Zionist leader, who died Jan. 25, 1936, was buried yesterday on the Mount of Olives beside his father and grandfather in fulfillment of the wish expressed in his will.
Among those who participated in the ceremonies were Dr. Isaac Herzog chief rabbi of Palestine; Miss Henrietta Szold, American-born women Zionist leader; Prof. Joseph Klausner, the philosopher, and representatives of the Jewish National Fund and the Hebrew University, both of which he had aided financially. Dr. Hugo Bergmann, rector of the university, and Dr. Werner Senator, of the Jewish Agency Executive, eulogized him.
Mr. Lamport’s body was brought here for burial from New York by his daughter, Mrs. Ezra Shapiro, of Cleveland, and her husband. His widow had come here previously to arrange the burial.
