Rabbinate, Deprived of Authority, Powerless to Intervene (Jewish Telegraphic Agency)

The last two Jewish schools in Balat, a quarter with a population of 10,000 Jews, were closed because of lack of funds to carry on their work. Previously the government ordered the Talmud Torahs closed.

The Rabbinate of Constantinople is entirely powerless to take steps to provide for the schools as under the present regime it has no authority whatsoever.
