United States Ambassador to Israel Edward B. Lawson left Israel suddenly tonight for Beirut, Lebanon, for an urgent meeting with George F. Allen, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, who just met in Cairo with Egyptian Premier Nasser in an effort to convince him to cancel the arms deal with Czechoslovakia. The official announcement by the United States Embassy of Mr. Lawson’s departure said that the meeting was being held at the request of Mr. Allen.
