Special U.S. representative to Israel James G. MacDonald was suddenly called to Paris today by Secretary of State George C. Marshall. He will leave here tomorrow or Wednesday.

It is believed here that Marshall’s summoning MacDonald to the scene of the United Nations deliberations is not unconnected with possible American mediation in peace talks between Israel and Egypt. It is also believed here that MacDonald’s first-hand report to the U.S. Secretary of State may speed up the extension of de jure recognition to Israel by the United States.

The Israeli Cabinet has decided to continue discussions of the acting mediator’s order to withdraw from the Negev on Wednesday.
