Legislation being proposed in the U.S. Congress would shift assistance to Egypt from military aid to economic aid. Rep. Tom Lantos (D-Calif.) said he believed aid to Egypt was “out of whack” because the country receives $5 billion more military aid than economic aid, despite poor economic conditions in the country.
