Normalization of life in the previously Egyptian-occupied Gaza Strip is progressing on both the administrative and economic fields, according to surveys disclosed here today.
All health services have been reactivated in the area. District and magistrates’ courts are reopening this week. Schools were reopened last week. The Israeli authorities have restored to his former post of chairman of the Gaza Municipal Council Rushdy Shawa who was Major of the city from 1939 until his arrest by the Egyptian military authorities in 1952. A municipal council has also been set up in Khan Yunis and a town council will be established in Dir el Ballah within the next few days.
The Israeli marketing companies have agreed to market Gaza farm produce, including oranges for export. Since the prices in the Gaza area are considerably lower than in Israel proper, the difference is being paid into a special fund devoted to financing public and social services for the Gaza Strip inhabitants.
