The 1954 Stephen S. Wise Award was presented to Louis Lipsky, veteran American Zionist leader, last night for his “outstanding devotion to the cause of Jewish people hood and his leadership in rebuilding Zion.” Two hundred communal and Zionist leaders were present at the presentation ceremony.
Principal speakers at the presentation were Dr. Israel Goldstein, president of the American Jewish Congress, and Dr. Nahum Goldmann, chairman of the Jewish Agency and president of the World Jewish Congress. Dr. Goldstein, in his address, said that a Big Four guarantee to Israel and the Arab states would be the “most reassuring step for peace in the Middle East.”
