The case of a Jewish soldier in the Lithuanian army, who was sentenced to nine months imprisonment, has attracted wide attention here.
The accused soldier, Leiser Moser of Szeszmer, was accused of having killed a Christian soldier who came to relieve him at sentry duty. Moser declared that he did not know that the soldier who came up to him while he was on guard was to relieve him. The soldier demanded that Moser leave his post. His manner was very aggressive and for this reason Moser shot him, in accordance with military instructions.
Moser was defended by Attorney Simon, who was formerly the only Jewish prosecutor in Lithuania. He argued that Moser cannot be held for murder as he acted in accordance with military instructions.
