In Pilushok near Kovno, which is inhabited mainly by Jews, the police have laid waste the local Jewish cemetery, on the ground that the land was required for the building of a new promenade. All the gravestones were removed, the graves were dug up and the bones scattered over the adjoining fields.

The Rabbinate proclaimed a fast day to mourn this act of desecration. The whole Jewish population. men, women and children, spent the day praying in the synagogues.
