In the second attack on a London synagogue this month, unknown vandals last night broke into the Dollis Hill Synagogue in the northwest section of the city and destroyed 12 Holy Scrolls. The Ark was badly damaged and an attempt had apparently been made to set the premises afire.
An inscription chalked on the walls of the building read: “You whip, we burn.” This was apparently a reference to the flogging of several Britons in Palestine yesterday by Jewish extremists. It is believed that the vandalism was the work of a group of fascists who call themselves the “National Guard” who earlier this month damaged a synagogue in Clapton.
Scotland Yard is reported to have taken precautions to guard against further attacks on synagogues and to apprehend the persons responsible for the desecration. Jewish leaders, however, have not asked for police guards for all synagogues.
