The 80th birthday of Lord Samuel, first Palestine High Commissioner, was marked here today in laudatory editorials appearing in the London Times and the Manchester Guardian. The Board of Deputies of British Jews sent a congratulatory letter in behalf of British Jewry to Lord Samuel, “Your services to the Jewish people in connection with the Balfour Declaration and as the first High Commissioner for Palestine are gratefully remembered,” the letter said. “British Jewry feels pride in your distinguished career as a statesman and administrator no less than in your preeminence in the field of philosophical thought.”
