A committee appointed by Mayor Broadus of Louisville will open solicitation within two weeks for a $60, 000 fund for construction of a planetarium on the campus of the University of Louisville as a memorial to the late Rabbi Joseph Rauch, who was for 44 years Rabbi of Temple Adath Israel here.
Wilson W. Wyatt, chairman of the Rauch Memorial Committee, said the planetarium would be “most appropriate as a living memorial.” Its location on Belknap Campus, he said, recalled the deep interest Dr. Rauch had in education and youth. Dr. Rauch had served as a trustee of the university for 13 years.
The planetarium, to be located hear the University’s Natural Science Building, will be air-conditioned. It will have seating accommodations for 120 persons and will be the only planetarium in Kentucky. Construction is expected to begin this Fall and to be completed in the late Spring. Dr. Rauch died last February.
