The person identified publicly only as “the third man” involved in the 1954 “security mishap” which led to the resignation of Pinhas Lavon as Minister of Defense, was sentenced today to 12 years’ imprisonment by the District Court here after having been found guilty of violating the Official Secrets Ordinance and the State Security Law.
The trial of the “third man” was not connected with the 1954 (incident, but concerned a subsequent and separate matter. During tie trial, however, it was brought out that the defendant gave false testimony before a commission investigating the security mishap. This disclosure led to the re-opening of the “Lavon affair” following which the former Defense Minister was rehabilitated.
