The Mapai Party’s central committee decided here today to call on its delegates in Histadrut, the Israel Federation of Labor, to eliminate shorter “summer hours” for office workers in Israel for the next two years.
The decision was voted by an overwhelming majority, with only three members of the central committee opposed to the resolution, after several hours of stormy debate. The majority of the members of the central committee lambasted the alleged lack of “work spirit” among office workers. They held that a shorter summer schedule of working hours for office personnel was unjustified, in view of the fact that production workers are working regular shifts.
Moshe Sharett, as a member of the central committee, emphasized the need for increasing production in Israel, and called on office personnel and clerks to work full days, summer and winter.
