Max and Frieda Stollman, of Detroit, were the first American Jewish couple to receive honorary doctorates from Bar Ilan University at graduation ceremonies this week. Baccalaureate, Masters and Ph.D. degrees were presented to 1124 students. The Stollmans, well-known for their philanthropic work, were cited as outstanding supporters of Israel and higher education. They were among the founders of Bar Ilan University. Another American recipient was Abraham Spiegel, a Jewish community leader and philanthropist from the West Coast.
