Saadia Maze, son of the late Chief Rabbi of Moscow, who was arrested and exiled for his Zionist activities, left Moscow for Odessa on his way to Palestine. He is accompanied by his wife.
He is scheduled to sail from Odessa on a Soviet steamer for Jaffa on May 17. A large group of Moscow Jews gathered at the station to see him off.
The passport granted the exiled scholar specifies that Maze has the right to return to Russia. It also stipulated that he make no stop in Roumania or Bulgaria.
Before his departure Mr. Maze told the correspondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that he hopes to find an opportunity for work in the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Should conditions in Palestine be unfavorable he would then consider proceeding to Germany or the United States, he said.
