U.N. mediator Count Folke Bernadette today informed the U.N. hers that he is actively engaged in formulating suggestions “aimed at promoting a peaceful adjustment” in Palestine and that he hopes that the proposals will be ready for presentation to the Arabs and Jews within a few days.

(Hebrew newspapers in Tel Aviv today reported that Bernadette will propose a decrease in the total area of Israel, free immigration into the smaller state and state sovereignty for the Jews only internally, but that on external affairs the Jews and the Arabs in the Arab part of Palestine will unite in a common representation. The press comments all stated that if these reported proposals are correct none of the parties now in the Israeli Government will consent to their becoming a basis for negotiation.)
