If the common background of Arab and Jew “were realized by the people at large greater amity would be shown by the Arabs of Palestine towards the Jews,” Dr. Israel Davidson, Professor of Medical Hebrew Literature, declared tonight at the Jewish Theological Seminary’s Institute of Post-Biblical Literature.
Dr. Davidson deplored the fact that the Arabs and Jews did not look to their common background of medieval Hebrew poetry as an inspiration for harmonious relationships. He called the present a golden age of Hebrew poetry on a level, if not higher, than the golden age in Spain. His topic was “Hebrew Poetry Since the Bible.”
